About Me

My name is Joanna Elaine McVey and this is my first blog EVER!  This isn’t a blog with a specific topic.  I’m just going to write about whatever is on my mind that day, and things I’m interested in.  Most topics will probably be about baking, cooking, photography, crafts, and animals….since my husband and I have five of them, they pretty much take up a big portion of our lives.  I’ve never really been a person that keeps a journal or diary (except when I was little, and even then I think I only wrote in it about once every 6 months or so), so this might start out a little rough and will hopefully get better and more interesting as time goes on.:-)  I hope you enjoy reading my posts as much as I enjoy writing them!  Thanks for coming along this journey with me.

Now, a little bit about me.  I was born in good ‘ole California to two amazing parents, Martin (“Butch”) and Pamela Pentland.  I was a Los Angeles County native from the time I was born until 2 days after my 23rd birthday, which is when me and my then fiance, Steve, moved to Nashville, TN.  More specifically Hendersonville, TN.  I am a born again believer in Jesus Christ, and Steve and I love our church out here.  Being in Nashville we have some amazing singers leading worship and a great Sunday School class where we met most of our new friends.  I love everything that has to do with being a homemaker (except cleaning up the occasional dog/cat barf/poop).  I’ve taken on a few new hobbies this year including photography, crocheting, sewing, and gardening.  My Grandma taught me the basics of crocheting when I was still in elementary school, but I’ve since perfected my skills by reteaching myself how to crochet with a book Steve’s mom got me for Christmas one year.  (It’s called I Can’t Believe I’m Crocheting available at Joann Fabrics or any other craft store in case you feel like learning how to crochet).  Steve bought me my first sewing machine this past Christmas and it also has an embroidery attachment.  I’m hoping to learn how to use it soon!

My camera is my baby, and I take pictures with it pretty much every day.  I use a Canon Rebel XTI along with 3 different lenses.  I’ve also recently learned to use Lightroom 3 (by Adobe Photoshop) and it’s amazing what beautiful pictures you can create with it.  I can’t wait to learn more about photography and photo editing.  Here are some of my favorite pictures that I have taken so far.  (And of course, most of them are of our furbabies)

I married my best friend on July 16, 2011!  Steve and I met in 3rd grade at West Valley Christian Academy, but lost touch until after we had both graduated high school.  Fortunately we found each other again at 24 hr. Fitness, where he worked and I worked out.  A year later, he found me again on MySpace and asked me on our first date on October 20, 2006.  We’ve been together ever since, and I’m so happy to be his wife.  You can visit our wedding website here.

Update:  I am excited to announce that I am pregnant with our first child, a BOY!  Our estimated due date is May 26, 2012, and Steve and I couldn’t be more thrilled!  We’re excited about all the new adventures we’ll experience as parents.
